Garnet is known as the stone of regeneration, which makes it a fitting birthstone for the month that welcomes a fresh new year! It revitalises, purifies, and balances energy to bestow vitality and order into your life. Garnet is the birthstone of January and the Zodiac birthstone of Capricorn (22nd December - 19th January) although many other star signs will find they will also align with this beautiful deep red stone.
How and where Garnet is formed
Found in its many varieties all over the world, Garnet occurs in Metamorphic rock when intense heat and pressure cause minerals to melt and recrystallize.
Most commonly known in it’s dark red form, Garnet is named after the Latin word for "seed" because of its similarity to a pomegranate seed. However the presence of different chemicals during formation can result in a variety of colours including pink, green, orange, yellow, brown and black.
Discovered in ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian ruins, Garnet has been loved as a gemstone for centuries. It has featured in folklore and legends, where it is said to have been used as a protective talisman for its ability to warn of approaching danger.
Garnet properties and usesA powerfully energising and regenerating stone, Garnet cleanses and re-energises the chakras. It brings strength, courage and hope when situations seem hopeless, and activates the survival instinct in times of crisis. It sharpens the way that you see yourself and others, and helps you to let go of old ideas and behaviours that are no longer serving you.
A stone of commitment, Garnet is believed to inspire love, devotion and sexuality, and alleviate emotional disharmony. Wear it to open up your heart, release your inhibitions and encourage self-confidence.
