To keep their crystals at their most powerful, many crystal lovers charge their crystals using a variety of methods. But don’t worry if you’re not sure how to best to boost your beloved crystal necklaces and bracelets, we’ve put together a handy guide to help you.
Why is charging crystals important?
As each crystal possesses their own powerful vibrations, which can help to ease worries, soothe the soul and enhance creativity (to name just a few benefits), it’s important to charge crystals in order to ensure that they retain their qualities. It’s thought that a charged crystal, especially when worn, encourages the body to tune into the frequency of the crystal, bringing the positive healing benefits of the chosen crystal to the wearer.
What is the best way to charge my crystal?
There are a wide range of ways to charge crystals, but not all will be the best option for your crystal. Here are some of the most popular ways to charge crystals, just choose which is most suitable for your stone.
Charging crystals with sunlight
Many people enjoy spiritually cleansing their crystal jewellery by allowing them to bathe in the sun’s light for a few hours. This is thought to restore and recharge the powers of crystals such as carnelian and sunstone.
However, some stones will fade in sunlight, due to pigmented crystals, so avoid sun bathing stones such as amethyst, aquamarine, citrine, opal, rose quartz, topaz and turquoise.
Moon-bathing crystals
Just like sunlight, the power of the moon can re-energise crystals. Simply place directly in moonlight for 24 hours. To enhance the potency when charging, lots of bohemian girls do this during a new or full moon. A new moon signifies new beginnings, while a full moon is associated with endings.
Unlike the sunlight method, moon-bathing crystals is suitable for all precious stones.
Charge crystals with other crystals
As some crystals (such as quartz) are naturally charging crystals, you can use these to charge others, by simply placing other crystals on top of them for 24 hours. Or, if you’d prefer you can use smaller pieces of the naturally charging crystal to circle your stones. This is especially effective with citrine, carnelian, ruby, garnet and labradorite crystal jewellery.
Use nature to charge your crystals
Taking inspiration from the beauty of Mother Nature, a popular way of charging crystals is to plant them in in a thriving garden or plant pot that has plenty of gorgeous green leaves blooming in it, again for a day. It is thought to reconnect crystals to nature and is a favoured way of charging crystals such as emerald, quartz, citrine, carnelian and pink Peruvian opal.
Ground crystals
Similar to the nature method mentioned above, grounding stones – especially those that are earthy in colour, including black onyx, ruby, labradorite and emerald – is a great way to energise crystals. Just bury your precious crystals for up to a week to give your stones a boost.
Charge crystals with sound
A popular, alternative way to charge crystals with new, positive energy is to create a sound bath using singing bowls or gongs. The sound therapy not only retunes the crystals but provides the body and mind with balance too. This option works best with stones such as aquamarine, turquoise, lapis lazuli, amethyst and rose quartz.
