How and where larimar is formed

Larimar is a unique variety of pectolite, which was first described in Italy in the early 1800s, but only discovered in its unique blue variety a century later in the Dominican Republic. It was not until 1974 that Dominican craftsman Miguel Méndez learned of its existence and with the help of Norman Rilling (of the US Peace Corps) found and began to extract it. Méndez named larimar after his daughter, Larissa combined with “mar” the Spanish word for the sea.

Larimar meanings, properties and uses

Also known as the ‘Dolphin Stone’, larimar is said to embody the tranquil energies of the sea and sky. It is thought to be connected to the Divine Feminine making it full of feminine energy, and is believed to balance fire and water elements.

Used to cool tempers, calm fears, and guide fiery passion into peace, it is connected to the throat chakra and believed to help aid clear communication.
