Aquamarine is the stone of eternal youth and happiness. It represents truth, trust and letting go, and its beautifully soothing, crisp icy blues quiet the mind and calm the soul. The birthstone for March and the perfect stone for water babies, aquamarine is connected with the exhilaration and relaxation of the sea. 🌊
How and where is aquamarine formed?
Sparkling blue like the ocean, it's easy to see where aquamarine gets its name: aqua marinus meaning 'water of the sea'.
It is a type of beryl which is a hard, clear mineral, formed when magma under the earth's crust interacts with mineral rich rocks called pegmatites. Its different varieties are formed when trace elements such as chromium, iron or manganese are present. Aquamarine owes its blue hues to minute quantities of iron being trapped within the beryl crystals as they grow. With these cool blue shades of the sea it's almost hard to believe that aquamarine originates from such intense heat!
Aquamarine is found all over the world with the majority sourced from Brazil.
